This is my first blog article and would like to make it interesting to the whole lot. I was traveling today when my mom suddenly sparked a conversation on Yakub Memon's hanging. I was really surprised cause of two things. One, my mom does not usually voice optimistic things about a terrorist ( Ha, no one does, I know) and secondly, it was my own research into the matter. A few minutes of research and I was dumbstruck to find this person to be a lot belonging to the educated group. He was a chartered accountant and while in jail he had got educated and post graduated twice, one in English literature and the other in Political Science. Oh goodness, then what was the crime that he had commited??
This basic knowledge about this terrorist ( as branded by the government), fired my curiosity to know a little more. He was found guilty of three things.
1. Having financed the terror attack of 1993 Mumbai blasts.
2. Being the brother of the dreaded terrorist, Tiger Memon.
3. Having disclosed all the details to the government to prove his innocence.
Ha!!! The first crime, as listed above, is the reason for his hanging as per the government. The second one, a crime that he had not committed neither listed in the charge sheet (after all, being the brother of a terrorist is no crime). But, after reading all the news, I think, this crime contributed a large part to his hanging. The third, is the best of all. He had disclosed all the details fearing for his life and his family. He interview with Doordarshan channel, where again he disclosed all of it. He had belief in the investigation agency who had promised him leniency in the verdict.
Verdict: Yakub Memon was hanged at the Nagpur jail on July 30,2015.
Wow, that seems to be a great leniency put forth by the government. Today, many politicians tweet against his hanging. My question is simple and candid: DID HE DESERVE THE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT? and one more......Why was he hanged on his birthday?

He is charged with terrorism and he may be punished. But it can't be said that he "deserves" it. Nobody deserves death as a punishment. And one more thing, he found something worthwhile to do while he was n prison.
